Vacations in Turkey (VI) : Kas, Myra

June 29th - July 2nd: Kas (and around)
Like for Sirince, the "s" of Kas is actually a "sh", so pronounce it "Kash".

We arrived in Kas in the afternoon after a few hours of bus. We slept at Gulsen Pansiyon, a nice hostel with direct access to the sea. Like in Akyaka, it is not a beach, but a platform on some rocks with ladders.

Breakfast.

Life is ... so hard ...

Besides having the sea, Kas is a nice and very relaxed place, with a lot of bars and restaurants. It has a few historical places (understand: ruins), including a theater with an amazing view to the sea !

Theater ... if you're bored with the play, you can still look at the sea !

In Kas, like in many places, you always meet people fishing ... and cats are never really far !

Fishers and cats !

Basically, on the day we arrived in Kas and the following day, we enjoyed the sea and visited the town and its surroundings. We also tried to think what kind of activity we would like to do for our last day, since in Kas, there are a lot of things one can do: paragliding, sea-kayak, jeep "safari", etc.
So, on the 30th, we went to visit the site of Myra and decided that the next day we would visit Kekova (the sunken city) with sea-kayaks !

June 29th: Myra
Myra is a necropolis (with other ruins as well) close to Kas - about one hour by bus.

Towards Myra

The first, striking thing, is that everything there is written in Turkish and Russian ! The site is famous for "Santa Claus", or Saint Nicholas, or any of his numerous names. I found it funny that it for instance the museum is called "Saint Nicholas museum" in English, but "Noel Baba muze" (or something of the kind) in Turkish !

Santa ?!
After walking about 30 minutes, we arrive on the Myra site.

The rock-carved necropolis

Theater.
It is also famous for carved theater masks ... which Laura likes to mimic, apparently !

Just like the hundreds of Russian tourists, we did tourist photos !

Then we left and although it was not too attractive, we went to the Saint Nicholas Museum (an ancient church that is now a museum). We did not regret, since we met Saint Nicholas in person ...

Saint Nicholas !
... I could sit in yet another kind of theater ...

... and we witnessed the wedding of a Russian couple !

The perfect tourist dress.
We finally went back to Kas, where I was feeling not so well because too much sun, I think. But I forced myself to eat nice Köfte in a small and very good restaurant, a bit isolated from the touristic center.

In the next post, you will see how we became famous ...
